Club Referee Program Update

27 Mar 2015 by Football Brisbane

Last year we announced, in partnership with Football Queensland, our CLUB REFEREE PROGRAM.

Referee coverage to games is always one of the most difficult tasks to administrate, especially with approximately 28,000 players playing football in Brisbane.

There are many issues around the retention of officials and whilst we had a 10% increase in officials from last year, it is still difficult to cover all games.

In our strategic plan we address the education and development of referees and have strategies in place to lift the levels of satisfaction for the football enthusiast.

One such initiative is to bring the up and coming youth referees, free of charge to the Champion of Champions, where they will officiate at games, be put through workshops at night and trained by our referees manager, Ted Kearney and our top referees.

The club referee program in particular was an initiative to get more officials on the park, especially around the clubs they reside in.
Football Brisbane and Football Queensland can now proudly advise that we have conducted 16 courses which have now accredited 241 new Club Referees. 18 of these Club Referees have progressed to become a full Football Brisbane referee.

As part of this program the Club Referee will receive club referee apparel, whilst the club receives a whistle, set of flags, and a copy of the Laws of the Game book – FREE of charge.
We have a Club Referee Course coming up on Saturday 4th April, at The Lakes Football Club. More information can be found on the Football Brisbane website under ‘Referee’/’Become a Referee’.

Any club wishing to hold their own club referee course, please contact Christine Burchnall at our Football Brisbane offices by calling 3347 0047 or emailing: Support@footballbrisbane.com.au
